Biography

Vernon Paul

The early years -
I found my interest in photography while in High School in Sunnyvale, California. I bought my first real camera as a freshman and began shooting for the drama department. My father built a darkroom in the garage where we both learned darkroom techniques together. I did all the photos displayed in the lobby for the plays and musicals produced while I was in High School.

Time off -
After High School there was little time for photography. I was married and four children followed. It was not until my children started moving away from home that I realized how much I missed photography, and how much photography I missed. My children had grown and I had precious few photos of them.

Rediscovering my passion -
I bought a digital camera and started working again with the medium I missed so much. Starting mostly with landscape work, I began to regain my passions of the past.

Lessons learned -
One thing that I learned over the years was that in life, relationships are the one truly meaningful memory. I began to feel that I wanted to connect with others in meaningful ways. This led me to portrait photography. It allows me to contact some very special people and capture their inner character; to relate just a little deeper and build an image of their inner self.
